HOLLAAAAAAA …. challah recipe

i hate myself more its ok.

this recipe brought to you by property readings. i stopped learning at the definition of a fee simple.

Ingredients:

4-1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading purposes
1 tablespoon instant/rapid-rise yeast (the stuff you keep in the fridge – not the packets)
2 teaspoons salt
3/4 cup lukewarm water
6 tablespoons vegetable oil (or coconut oil did the trick bc i didn’t want to spend $5 on canola oil… I apologize to centuries of jewish moms for this)
6 tablespoons honey
3 eggs + 1 egg yolk

  1. mix flour, yeast and salt in large bowl
  2. in smaller bowl combine water, oil and 2 eggs + egg yolk — add this to dry ingredients
  3. knead for 10ish minutes or until it feels like its supposed to – long enough to get the angry kneading finished with
  4. plop into a well oiled bowl (ok actually properly oil it bc it stuck like a mf)
  5. cover and let rise for 2.5 hours
  6. plop back out and (using scale!!) and divide into 4 long snakey guys (or try 6 bc 4 was some weak shit but idk how to do 6 yet) pinch at top end together
  7. HOW TO BRAID: take furthest right strand and weave it left through the other strands using: over, under, over repeatedly
  8. tuck ends under loaf
  9. let rise again for an hour ish — a little less than doubled in size
  10. heat oven to 325 AND DOUBLE LINE THE PARCHMENT PAPER (big ups for not burning the bottom
  11. coat in egg wash
  12. bake for 30minutes (plus or minus a couple)
