Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 package active dry yeast (or alternatively… use 1tbs(ish) of bread machine yeast that you conveniently have in your fridge)
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, approximately
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 10 cups water
- 2/3 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water… or accidentally forget the water aspect of this and we’re still fine
- coarse salt … ok use more than you think bc turns out pretzels with limited salt don’t hit the same
- as with anything utilizing yeast… warm water, yeast, and sugar and let sit for 10ish minutes
- add flour and butter, and mix. while this would ideally be done with a dough hook on my KitchenAid™ mixer that is sitting sad in Kitchener under-utilized, a wooden spoon and almost arm muscles more or less work
- cover in oiled bowl and let sit for an hour ish or until doubled in size in warm place
- cut into appropriately sized chunks ??? idk roll into lil snakes
- form pretzel shape
- also put on 10cups of water and baking soda… but actually place on burner this time as not to be confused after 10+ minutes why the water still isn’t boiling … ensure baking soda is completely dissolved
- with slotted spoon/spatula thing place pretzels 1 by 1 into boiling water for 30 seconds … place back on parchment lined baking sheet
- coat in salt and egg wash
- bake for 15 ish minutes (until dark brown) at 350
- bring pretzels to boys house because thats how ensure friends will help you move again.
