cast iron skillet apple pie

ok back because evidently have been slacking on this and needed something to do today so i don’t kill my whole family.

ingredients:

crust:

***preheat over to 400***

  • 2.5 cups flour + more for rolling
  • 2/3 cups vegetable shortening (cold)
  • 1tsp salt — ok more than you think apparently according to my father who i almost killed (but didn’t)(salt isn’t whats activating all this)(it’s fine i’m fine)
  • 1 egg yolk — keep egg white though
  • 1tbs lemon juice
  • .3 cup water
  1. ok so mix together flour and shortening so it creates pea sized chunks (until all combined)
  2. mix in salt
  3. in liquid measuring cup, mix in yolk and lemon juice – proceed to fill cup until .3 cup line with cold water
  4. mix together and create some form of a dough ball
  5. stick in the fridge long enough so you can go for a painful run, and do a workout in the backyard hopeful the neighbourhood dads aren’t watching 🙂 (aprox. 1.5 hours)
  6. take out of fridge, and roll out onto floured piece of saran wrap (so you can easily flip over into skillet)
  7. stab fork in the bottom a few times – i don’t know why, just do it.
  8. toss in the filling, flip over edges of crust into middle, coat w egg wash and brown sugar – ta da
